I was in my craft room painting rocks and Roy walked up outside to the window. He said “Come outside now and bring your camera!” He had a big smile on his face!
I knew (or hoped I knew) right away what happened.
Bo and Peep are now proud new parents and we are very proud grandparents of a new baby duck!
Our first photo of the precious little one in the yellow circle. There are several eggs in there with him that will hopefully hatch soon!
Isn’t he adorable! Tiny little new creation of God!
After about 30 eggs that Peep laid over two nesting times this year, with none hatching, this batch has at least produced one and he is adorable! Look at him following
I took several videos and my phone died before getting any more still pictures but these are two of the best videos I was able to get. Roy opened their cage and let them all out. I was worried about how a newborn baby duck would handle our pond but that little thing did great. Mama and Daddy protected him when he took a tiny tumble and it was precious to see him swimming near the shore in the pond!
I was very worried about them leaving the cage and following their parents down by the pond. I just read something that I wish I had read before that. Buff Orpington baby ducks are “capable of a high degree of independent activity from birth and able to leave the nest just a few hours after hatching.”
And now we are proud to announce baby chick number 2 that Roy discovered when checking on them this morning! Another little miracle!
They were let out and quickly began following mama and daddy around!
Mama Peep here getting back on her nest of eggs!
Peep thought they would follow her inside but the babies discovered the small space below the cage where only they could fit in! Here’s Roy down on his knees being the wonderful grandfather that he is, working on getting them out!
Before we left them down there Roy put Peep and the babies back in the cage with the nest. Bo is staying outside in the bigger cage just to make sure he doesn’t harm the babies since that is something the males sometimes do. While all of that was going on Peep was just a squawking away. When it was over Peep was nesting inside and was very quiet!
Baby’s brothers and sisters in law were notified of the birth! The ex parents (who still love them) were also notified of the birth!
I don’t plan to introduce each and every one of the newborns but we are discussing a gender reveal party when that information is known!!! You will be invited to that event!
Right before I was going to publish this the third baby duck was born!!
