If you’re not from this area you may not realize that Mardi Gras is a season, not just one day. There is a Mardi Gras Day which was February 21st this year but the rest of the season lasts at least two weeks before Mardi Gras Day.
In Mardi Gras 2023 Part I, I wrote about our adventure enjoying two Slidell parades with Kendal’s son Keith, his wife Debbie, and their family. We had so much fun at both of those parades. Our second adventure, Part II, was with Kendal’s daughter Lyn and her husband David.
We arrived in Uptown New Orleans around 9 am Sunday morning the 19th of February and saw four parades ending with Bacchus somewhere around 10 pm when we left the parade route to head home. St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans is one of the most beautiful areas of the city. Majestic homes, equally majestic oak trees, and Street Cars traveling on the neutral grounds.
We came prepared to stay the whole day with two ladders for easier parade viewing, food and drinks in the ice chest, chairs, and more that I can’t think of right now. David dropped off us and all of that on St. Charles and parked a couple of blocks away.
The four parades that day were Okeanos, Mid City, Thoth, and the biggest, brightest, bestest of them all Bacchus. I was born and raised in New Orleans but had never been to a Bacchus parade. Kendal was determined to rectify that wrong so we went to Bacchus which was at the end of the long day of parades.
Lyn and David have some very nice and generous friends, Dennis and Lisa, who rent an apartment on St. Charles Avenue for a week during Mardi Gras. They do this so that they, their family, and friends can have a place to use the restroom, store, and heat food, rest, or whatever the need is during the parades that week. When you are out there all day watching parades it is absolutely wonderful to have somewhere close by to do all of those things. It was okay with their friends for us to join Lyn and David on Sunday and we are so grateful and happy that they did. We had so much fun, made some new acquaintances, and enjoyed being with Lyn and David!

That ends our Mardi Gras 2023 experience. It is now a week later and we are finally starting to recover! Thanks to Kendal’s kids Lyn and Keith and their spouses David and Debbie it was certainly an adventure I’ll never forget! They opened their homes and their lives to us to make this happen and we both really enjoyed it!
