Another two-week post. My life is crazy upside down and it’s taken me many times longer than it should to put this together. You can skip it all and just read this small summary which is the title! Went to church, went to lunch with a friend, planting flowers in pots and in the ground, pulling weeds, cleaning up a lot of the landscape, doing a lot of unpacking and putting away, hanging pictures, Buddy and Benny back together, hair cut, picking out yarn and receiving my beautiful afghan made by Cindy V., car repairs, mammogram, Ms. Louise’s 100th birthday! I think there was more but can’t remember it all!
I made it to church on time on my first Sunday living in Amite! We get up an hour earlier on Sundays to do that. Chip drove us there and I thank him for that. Sunday School started out with an interesting observation by one of our class members, Wiley Traylor about some similarities of events in the book of Daniel and the events of last week in Ukraine. I asked him to write what he shared and I will be putting together a post about that next week.
A friend of mine from church asked Chip and me to join him for dinner after church at a neat Mexican restaurant in Springfield. The food was great there and we all enjoyed spending time getting to know each other better.
This was my week of just working outside in the gardens around the property in Amite. There is a lot more work than I originally thought so that work didn’t get completely finished.
Since the pine trees downed during Hurricane Ida didn’t get picked up until recently there is no grass left where they lay. I’ll be watering that area daily to help the grass come back again.
Chip has been busy raking up pine needles and it has all been used up where it is needed. Around the azaleas, under the blueberry bushes and fig trees, around both mailboxes, around the big pine tree, and in the new garden that I created by the driveway in front, and along most of the garden over by where Chip lives.
I am still unpacking boxes inside. Pictures are being hung a couple at a time. I tackled unpacking the kitchen first and everything found a home! A big plus about my home in Amite is that I have a walk in pantry. I think my bedroom, closet, and bath are done except that I couldn’t find my jewelry until yesterday, but alas they were located! The living room is all done as well! The front porch is done and the back patio is coming along nicely.
Flowers make such a difference In making a house a home and I worked on that two days this week! Springtime flowers are what make me extremely happy each year so I bought a bunch for the patio and the gardens. I made planters out of a small crockpot and bundt pan and love how they look.
The guest bedroom and the rock room (more crafts than just rocks but that’s what we’ve always called it so that’s what it is!) are not nearly finished and I think will be a work in progress for a while.
Buddy seems to be quite happy here being able to roam outside and play with Benny (Chip’s dog) all day. Whenever one of us is outside there is Buddy! His collapsing trachea is getting worse and happens several times a day now and it sounds worse. I want whatever time he has left to be happy and he certainly is happy here!
I forgot how strenuous and tiring it was to take care of everything here but I hope it helps me take off all the weight I put on while living in Hammond. I rarely did anything in Hammond and I seem to always be doing something here in Amite. I can’t imagine how it would be if Chip didn’t live next door. He has helped me tremendously every day.
I will be quite happy when the day comes that I can enjoy living here again without all the work of getting settled. I hope that comes along soon. When I open the back door to let Buddy out in the morning I see so much beauty that I instantly thank God for letting me live here.
I will never move again until I leave here on a stretcher having already gone to live with God in Heaven for eternity. I know that I did not truly appreciate what I have out here but I do now!
One day this week I visited with my friend Cindy Vernon. She made afghans for her sisters and is making one for me. I feel so privileged! She has several totes of yarn and I got to pick out the colors that I want in mine. She always amazes me with the quantity of EVERYTHING she has for crafts of all kinds. These is just a couple of the many totes filled with yarn.
She gave me several things for making crafts and that includes what I know will turn out beautiful some Christmas tree ornaments made from shaped tiles! I’ll share how those turn out when that happens!
The most wonderful lady at our church turned 100 years old the first Sunday. The second Sunday she was honored by a 100th Birthday dinner and party after church. I plan to write separately about that event. Here’s a photo of her family and one of just the birthday girl herself, Ms. Louise Traylor!
I love that lady and feel very priviledged to be her friend!
Monday I had my every two year mammogram. That’s enough about that.
I purchased a new desk for the rock room and Chip put it together. Now to get the computer things set back up. I’ll be bringing the server to Best Buy this week to try to recover our whole lives worth of photos that I can’t get to.
Friday I went back to my Amite hair lady for a much needed hair cut. I’m letting it grow longer and will try that for a while!
The sofa I bought when I moved to Hammond moved back with me. It fits much better than the big sectional sofa I use to have. I love that!!
The birdhouse and squirrel feeder are being occupied by birds and squirrels again!
I had a dentist appointment to try in my bottom partial dentures but I felt lousy when I woke up so it’s pushed back to next week.
My car had issues this week. First the starter went out but my insurance company towed it home for free!
Chip replaced the starter and it cranked up perfectly. Then my radiator went out. One has been ordered and Chip will put it in next week.
Lots more things were unpacked, put away, planted and prettied up! I’ve even been able to play with crafts this week. Easter decorations are making their appearance in my home and some new ones are being created.
Another young dear friend of mine, Lisa, bought me three packs of really nice napkins for my craft craziness. Here’s a picture of the napkins and next week I’ll share pictures of what I am doing with them!
The bunny napkin is the one I’m creating things with first. I look forward to creating things with the others!
I am so blessed to have friends like mine who do kind and generous things for me!
