I am no news reporter, just someone wanting to share about a really fun event in my life with some of the details about the game and a young man I know who was our team’s quarterback.
Here’s part of the real newspaper’s report on the Louisiana High School Class 5A State Championship in the Superdome on Saturday evening.
NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The Zachary Broncos shut out Ponchatoula in the second half to bring home their fourth 5-A State Championship in seven years.
The Broncos ended their season unblemished at 15-0. Quarterback Eli Holstein connected with Connor Wisham early in the game for a touchdown. The Texas A&M commitment Holstein was the Bronco’s MVP. He completed 13 of 30 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.
Ponchatoula’s Brayton Johnson finished with two rushing touchdowns. Green Wave’s quarterback Nolan Tribble set a Class 5A title-game record by throwing 53 passes, completing 25 for 307 yards and one touchdown. Tribble earned Ponchatoula’s title-game MVP.

Now here’s my reporting on the game!
This was the first time in 70 years PHS has played in the championship game. I had to let that fact sink in a bit. I wasn’t even born the last time PHS accomplished this amazing journey.
Chad’s family, Chip, and I went to the game and it was wonderful! Going to New Orleans to the Superdome is a big deal to me. I haven’t been there in many years. The traffic and all the walking is worth it when you walk in and get to enjoy that beautiful dome. We all sat together near the 35-yard line and I really enjoyed getting to cheer on the Greenwave with them!
Before the game, there was a mix-up with our tickets that went downhill quickly ending in me being in tears and exhausted from extra walking to the other side of the dome to get it straightened out. The very kind employees helped make it right so into the dome we went!
These are some photos of plays during the game. Click on the first one and you scan scroll through to see each one.

The Ponchatoula High quarterback, Nolan Tribble #9, goes to our church and we know him to be a humble, really nice, and polite young man. Getting to see him lead the Greenwave team on the field in the Superdome was absolutely awesome. What a hugely amazing experience that had to be for him. One I’m sure he will never forget!
PHS was ahead from the beginning of the game which was very exciting considering Zachary was #1 in the state. Ahead at halftime, it looked so promising and our boys were playing so well. Some really amazing plays wowed the crowd and kept us on our feet cheering.
Zachary was able to overcome the deficit to pull out a 28 to 20 win. Win or lose we love our PHS Greenies and are so proud of the season they had!
Thanks Greenwave for a memorable season for your school, your town and all your fans. You certainly made ‘Toula proud!
I have more to share about Nolan, the quarterback in my next post! It is really good and terribly funny so STAY TUNED!
