Roy went down to check on Bo and Peep and their four little ducklings a couple of days ago. He found these four precious little ducklings dead. I can’t tell you how shocked and saddened Roy and I were.
We were warned that male ducks are known to sometimes do harm to the babies. Because of that we kept Bo from the others at night for several days and watched them carefully when they were all together during the day. After several nights apart Bo spent his first night with Peep and the babies and that is when it happened. We are really sad about this. We’d fallen in love with the little ones.
Before this happened, Roy spent a lot of the day nursing a newborn duckling that wasn’t doing well after it hatched. He named the precious little one Pip and kept him warm and fed with sugar water. Pip was just not strong enough to make it even with all the loving care Roy gave him.
We hope that if Peep lays more eggs that there is a much better outcome.
